Wild tribe
Look after yourself,
Look after each other,
Look after the environment!
#TeamTeath
As part of our curriculum offer and TEAM Teath ethos we are proud to offer outdoor learning sessions.
Wild tribe/outdoor learning supports the holistic development of children through
-Health and fitness: being active and outside
-Wellbeing: increased emotional well being
-Social development: communication with peers and adults to solve problems
-Skills development: developing fine and gross motor with a 'real' purpose.
-Gaining knowledge and understanding: multi sensory, real life learning.
-Individualised learning: careful observation enables us to tailor to support specific needs and interests.
Wild tribe is based on forest school principles and is about children and young people building self esteem and independence through exploring and experiencing the natural world.
Our ethos is that it we allow learners the time and space to develop skills, interests and understanding through practical hands on experiences.
Sessions may include:
-hunting for minibeasts
-natural crafts
-fire building and cooking on a campfire
-mud sculptures
-climbing
-using tools for a purpose
-activities linked to our English, Maths and Topic learning.
Sessions are planned around the needs of our pupils and our built on the national curriculum.
Health and safety is central to the programme we deliver. We have a wild tribe practitioner (awaiting final certificate) who is fully trained in assessing risks and first aid outdoors. We have designated areas on our school site which are checked carefully with appropriate risk assessments for activities and equipment.
Some of the activities the pupils may participate in are 'higher risk' activities such as camp fires and use of tools. However, these are not available to the pupils until certain behaviours and boundaries are established. Pupils are encouraged and supported to recognise and manage risks for themselves.
Children need to wear long sleeves and trousers, waterproofs, wellies and our clothes will get dirty!
