At St Teath CP School we are fully engaged with the new Mathematics curriculum and adopting a mastery approach to learning. We are very happy with the way in which the children have embraced the new approach to deepening their understanding of Maths.
We all have the belief that Mathematics is a creative subject that allows children to form links across the curriculum.
It is essential to everyday life. We all use maths everyday regardless of ability. Our aim at St Teath is to foster a love of maths that encourages all children to embrace the subject, to enjoy investigating, not to worry about making marvellous mistakes and to build a solid foundation of knowledge that will carry them forward long after they leave education.
We aim to achieve this by delivering high-quality lessons that provide a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically and the confidence to problem solve. Above all we want the children to have fun, to have an appreciation of the wonder of mathematics and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
At St Teath C.P. School, we intend to provide our pupils with a high-quality mathematics education which provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically; a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
We want children to make connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. We intend for our pupils to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge to science and other subjects. We want them to know that it is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.
We follow the White Rose Maths scheme across the school, which follows the 'small steps' structure of the Mastery approach. Please find below the skills progression and our Calculation Policy.
