Spring Term 2023a in Sycamore

Our theme for this term was Roald Dahl.  We looked at several books by this famous author.  Part of the classroom was turned into the BFG's Dream Cave.  Fred (our class mannequin), was dressed up as the BFG himself.

Roald Dahl and the Journey of Chocolate Flipbook

Please click on the picture link below, to view our fabulous flipbook showing the work we have done on this theme!

We shall also be following our new whole school literacy scheme and looking at 'Big Blue Whale' by Nicola Davies and 'This Morning I Met a Whale' by Michael Morpurgo.

Tortoise Visitors

We were so lucky to have Betty and Boo visit Sycamore.  Their owner Kerri told us all about them and how to look after tortoises.

Clay Tortoises

Sycamore have been reading Esio Trot by Roald Dahl.  They have created some fabulous tortoises of their own.  The children carefully designed the shells and followed their design to engrave their handmade clay tortoises.

Tortoise Sketches

What a wonderful job Sycamore did of following instructions to sketch a tortoise!

Enormous Crocodile Videos

After looking at the story of the Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl, Sycamore made their own green screen videos about the book.

We played our videos to Elm and they read us the stories that they had made.

Art Workshop

Sycamore had another super workshop, this time in art.  Janie McDonald from Endelienta Arts worked with them to create a piece of abstract art based upon our local landscape.  The children used a mixture of techniques, which they will be able to apply to other projects in the future.

P.E. with Jack

Jack did a fabulous P.E. lesson with Sycamore, in which he taught Mrs Gregson some useful P.E. warm ups and activities.

Music Workshop

Sycamore had a super music workshop.  Katy Rowe from Endelienta Arts worked with them to compose, perform and record a song about the B.F.G., to fit with our Roald Dahl theme for this term.  The children managed to record their complicated, multi-part song in one perfect take!

Our Dreams

In P.S.H.E., we talked about what our dreams were to make the world a better place.  Sycamore created some beautiful dream jars.

Dreamcatchers

Roald Dahl's BFG loves catching dreams.  We are going to try to catch some good dreams of our own and trap the bad ones.  We have made some beautiful dreamcatchers from willow, wool, beads and feathers.  We learnt how to do a proper dreamcatcher weaving stitch.
